Villa Furuvik, located in Laajasalo, Helsinki, has had a step-by-step history. Today, the yellow villa and its milieu are managed by Tea Lindberg, who moved with her family to the old woolkeeper's house. On the log walls of the space, there are texts from a hundred years ago.
At the end of the sand road, the idyllic courtyard of Villa Furuvik, considered the oldest villa in Laajasalo, Helsinki, opens up on the beach. Thirteen apple trees are wintering. The outbuilding called the old chicken house, the current yard sauna, is waiting for its new look in tarpaulins. The sea breeze rustles the pines and birches. In front, there is a view of the Gulf of Finland as far as the eye can see.
Next to the yellow villa old man is the third of the original buildings, the red old wool watcher's house. Tea Lindberg, the entrepreneur who owns the farm, lives there today with her two small children. The tradition lives on, because Anni Holmström, the caretaker of the farm, lives next door for a while before she goes on maternity leave. The place has become so beloved that even the thought of change brings tears to my eyes.
Although Villa Furuvik is privately owned, some of the facilities are semi-public. The villa can be rented and the beach sauna is relaxing all year round. An open day is held every month.
The original buildings have been protected as valuable from a cultural-historical and environmental point of view, but the yard area is also valuable from a garden-historical point of view.
When the city of Helsinki sold Villa Furuvik, which it bought in the early 1990s, a couple of years ago, the place got an owner who is fascinated by the aesthetics and building history of old houses.
- One wonders about the environment every day. We want to restore the old dignity of the place. History and traces of life are not hidden, but on the contrary we want to emphasize them. The wall may be crooked and the threshold worn, Tea laughs.
Anni proudly presents the slanted roof of her home, with a difference of 13.5 centimeters between the two corners.
Tea and Furuvik's paths crossed for the first time twenty years ago. He admired the space while taking care of the catering for the birthday parties and karonka held in the villa. READ THE WHOLE STORY HERE.
